How many electives can I choose from?

Now that you have spent time filling in your scheduling form with your required classes you should be able to see just how many elective classes you can pick. You will be able to take 7 classes each semester, plus your AL class. If you are in 4 core classes and have 3 elective spots then you will end up selecting 6 semesters worth of classes. You will be able to choose from full-year electives or semester-long electives. As long as you end up with 14 classes (seven each semester) you will be all set!

General Considerations

What are your goals 5 years from now? Think about the question we asked about your dream job. What electives can you take to expose you to that type of experience?
Are there classes you want to take Junior or Senior year that have prerequisites? If so, make sure that you are taking them now so you can enjoy those classes in the following years.
When in doubt, try something new. High school is a great time to try a class for fun and without having to spend money. Take a business class, try an engineering course, or a computer class. You don't know if you will enjoy something until you give it a try.

Department Specific Considerations

Wellness Electives
- You MUST have completed PE 1 and PE 2 to take a PE Elective. NHS Athletes may take Athletic Weights after completion of PE 1 if they are on an NHS athletic team.
- Athletic Weights is reserved for student-athletes. Total Body Fitness and Advanced Physical Conditioning are open to all NHS Students.
Art Electives
- You must take an Intro/Adv 2D/3D course to take any of the 200 level Art Classes.
FACS Electives-
- You MUST take Principles of Culinary & Hospitality or both Nutrition & Wellness and Intro. to Culinary Arts before taking any other Culinary Arts courses.
PLTW Engineering-
- Make sure to check the Prerequisites for the PLTW courses. Many of the courses are rigorous and require prior science/math skills.
Career/Technical Ed
- Juniors have several opportunities to take courses on/off campus to further their studies in career and technical education areas. See the links below for more information.
