How can we as a parents, better understand how to manage the influx of digital devices in the lives of children?

Describe what children and adolescents are doing online
List positives and potential negatives of social media and gaming
Employ best practices in finding age appropriate content for children and adolescents
Construct household policies and procedures that ensure a healthy digital diet
Operationalize strategies to protect the privacy and security of family members
Recognize the importance of building a positive digital footprint

Course Description:

This course provides an introduction to strategies for successfully parenting in the digital age. Key topics include:

Discovery of what kids are doing online
Social media and gaming
Maintaining a healthy digital diet
Protecting privacy, security
Building a positive digital footprint

The course includes a series of videos, websites, interactive activities, discussions and quizzes. Participants will work through each module at their own pace. Within the online discussion forum, you can discuss course content with other students and the course instructor.

Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites. This is an introductory course designed for parents.

Required assignments: The course is self paced over a six week period and self-guided. You will progress sequentially through 6 modules completing each module at your own pace. In each module, you will watch a brief video, read any additional information provided, and participate in a short discussion or check for understanding.
